Opportunities:

Demographics Trend: A good majority of demographics favor this market. Health care industries will continue to grow for the foreseeable future. Since the average age and absolute number of older people is increasing, the health care industry has positively long term potential. Long term demographics favor an increase in demand for health services worldwide. Consumers are getting older and in large in number. On the verge of significant demographic shift, the aging of the baby boomer generation will impact no industry more than the pharmaceutical industry

Legal/Regulatory: For those companies who are involved in health care services like CVS, Government changes to Universal health care may increase the demand. If the government decides to spend additional money on medical care, this could encourage growth in certain sectors of the medical industry which means it will have a short term positive impact, which adds to its value. Also it will lead to increase in profits.

Micro SWOT

Update the store graphics: Develop a creative photographic direction that helps differentiate CVS. Photographic market at the entrance of the stores has proved to be a charm for certain number of customers.

U.S market has grown tremendously for generic drugs as well as anti aging drugs. New markets allow CVS to expand their business and diversify their portfolio of products and services.

International Expansion: International markets offer micro economics new opportunities to expand the business and increase sales. Opportunities for CVS lie in international market. Currently only a domestic business, as the U.S market becomes saturated, CVS will be forced to look internationally for expansion. While government regulations and cultural differences will likely prove challenging given the nature of CVS business, international market provide significant opportunities for market expansion.
